I studied hard for theDec 15 2010Architecture
I studied hard for the SATs and put together a very strong portfolio and chose recommendation letters from sources that could confirm my potential for the field I was studying.

For architecture, the portfolio is the primary vehicle for getting accepted.
SAT: 2200 Female

I wouldn't have gotten in my first time around,Oct 18 2010Animal Studies
I wouldn't have gotten in my first time around, so went to a SUNY school from which all applicants with over a 3.0 GPA are accepted (SUNY Cobleskill). I enjoyed my time there, but Cornell was much more meaningful, as I actually had to apply myself to get decent grades.
SAT: 1240 Male
High GPA (>3Sep 01 2010Meteorology
High GPA (>3.7) a must. Strong SATs or strong ACTs. Involvement in extracurriculars is strongly desirable. Community involvement and volunteerism are a big plus. I worked 20 hours a week, was on two varsity sports teams, was involved in multiple clubs and had a 4.0 at a large suburban high school (graduating class 500+, ranked in top 20). That was good enough for regular decision acceptance, but not ED.
SAT: 1400 Male
GPA. SATApr 30 2010Other
GPA. SAT. Fit.

Had a 4.0.

Studied for a year for my SATs. Scored in the top 5%.

Make sure you fit with your program! I wanted to go to ILR so I wrote about how I like economics, history, English, and many of the other courses that all intertwine into one of Cornell's programs: ILR. The labor focus was especially interesting because it's such a unique yet practical twist on my favorite subjects. The school itself is only ~200 people per year, so everyone gets to know everyone, and I wanted a close-knit community in a larger academic institution. Thus, ILR was perfect. Make sure you emphasize how YOU fit with that specific program. Name classes and professors in that division!
ACT: 32 Male

Unlike all of the other Ivies save Penn, admissionJan 06 2010Civil Engineering
Unlike all of the other Ivies save Penn, admission to Cornell does not seem random. Get A's in high school, score over 1400 on the SAT (or whatever the equivilent is on the new scale), and write a decent essay. I you do all this you will get in. The admissions rate is around 20%, not 8% like Yale or Harvard.
